June 28, 2023

Dear Villanova Faculty and Staff,

I am writing to share some news regarding the Office of University Information Technology (UNIT). Kelly Doney, Vice President for Technology and Chief Information Officer, will be leaving Villanova University. Kelly has been named Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the University of Virginia, and her last day at Villanova will be Wednesday, Aug. 2.

On behalf of everyone at Villanova, I wish Kelly the best in her new role and am grateful for the more than three years of dedicated leadership she has provided to UNIT. Under her direction, an information technology strategic plan was developed to align with the University’s Rooted. Restless. Strategic Plan, and our information technology area has been significantly enhanced to provide additional protection against cyber threats. Kelly and her team were also integral in ensuring that Villanova was able to transition operations online quickly and effectively during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A national search for Kelly’s’ replacement will be held this fall, and I will share more information about the search as it moves forward. Information technology is a critical area, encompassing research computing, information security, academic technologies, administrative computing systems, and technology infrastructure, as well as business intelligence and analytics. Villanova’s next CIO will possess the experience and technical knowledge to manage the changing technology and regulatory requirements in higher education, as well as the enterprise and technological practices to meet Villanova’s varied and complex needs.

Many thanks again to Kelly for all she has done on behalf of Villanova, and I wish her success at the University of Virginia.

Sincerely,
